In the 18th century jelly cupboards were one of the only pieces of furniture that made it into covered wagons traveling west. Pioneers needed a place to store dry goods, tea and coffee, sugar and flour and other household necessities. Once settled they also used pie safes to cool their baked goods while keeping them secure.
Today we use jelly cupboards and pie safes for just about the same things. At The Jelly Cupboard our specialty is storage cupboards including pantries and pie safes with beautiful tin door panels. They are made from select pine and finished in a large variety of stains and primitive paints. Each piece is hand-crafted by the Amish in Mohawk Valley, NY and Pennsylvania.
